One hell of a ride, and it AIN'T ovver yet

Since day one of the Caps' existence, I've been here. Good, bad, indifferent...made no difference. I hung with them.
Which means, waiting...and waiting...and waiting for a Stanley Cup in the trophy case. Alas, no such luck.
Getting swept in '98 by the Red Wings stung like no one's business. And here we all thought that would be the Caps' only time to see a final.
Until now.
What happened last night (5/23) was a fricking catharsis to the entire region. Being on Twitter last night, and seeing my timeline go gaga, made me believe that perhaps THIS could be the year my wish comes true.
And this man deserves a Stanley Cup. 'Nuff said.
So now, we wait until Monday (5/29) for the finals to begin. I'm ready for it, as you can see:
How about the rest of Caps Nation?

I'll get an ulcer YET...lol

At least the Caps are up 2 games to 1, and not the other way around. Still, playing the Rangers isn't helping my stomach much.
Ovie delivers. And today, Mike Green won it in overtime.
So that's where it stands, until Games 3 & 4 at the Garden.

Well, THAT blew...didn't it?

This is what happens when you only have 6 fucking days to prepare for starting the NHL season late.
You have Braden Holtby completely melt down in the 3rd period on Saturday night. Just totally un-acceptable, people. That's all I need to say on that, really.
Oh well...move on to tonight, against Winnipeg. (Move from Atlanta, but still in the Southeast Division. Thanks for nothing, NHLPA, in shooting down re-alignment last year. Asswipes.)
Is my contempt showing? I'm watching these damned games, but the joy's been taken out by this lockout and its aftermath. Can any of you blame me?
Thought I'd get that out of my system. Okay, fine...

We're BACK!!!

Yes, boys and girls, hockey has returned. And everybody is a tad rusty (& it shows). Proof of that, is that Braden Holtby has given up 3 goals after 2 periods.
But, Joel Ward has 2 for the Caps. 3rd period starting as I write this...so must focus on watching this damned game...lol
In the meantime...ROCK THE RED, people!!

Hockey's...back??

My God, it's been...what, 8 months sincee I last wrote on this blog? Yeah, I know it should've been sooner...for that, blame the NHL and the players' union for fucking the fans over.
But, that's ancient history now. This time next week, we're back to playing hockey...albeit a 50- or 48-game schedule. Whatever...
It just means the regular season is going to mean that much more to everyone. No more important than it will be for us Caps fans, after seeing how both the Nationals and Redskins made the postseason(s) in 2012. (And promptly bombed out in the 1st round...DAMMIT!!)
So now it's time to...
ROCK THE RED for 2013!!

No excuses

This is all I'm saying after watching the Caps do a complete fold job in Game 7:
No one expected the Caps to even get out of the 1st round (let alone the 2nd). No one thought Braden Holtby was a NHL-caliber goaltender.
And no one thought we would be treated to 14...count 'em, 14...memorable games from this Caps team.
Now let's have Dale Hunter return as coach, so that we can "Unleash The Fury" yet again upon the rest of the NHL...

Here we go again...

Been awhile since I got around to writing a Caps blog...lol...so I'll make this quick.
6.6 lousy seconds from having Game 6 Wednesday night be the clinched for the Caps...and it got snatched away from us! Shit happens, I admit...but still the Rangers were outlawed last night.
Que sera, sera...
But, once again, the racist tweets towards Joel Ward have begun anew...from Caps fans this time. Which prompts me to do this PSA:
Go to http://dcsportsnut.wordpress.com, and look for "(Social) media, sports and hypocrisy". It's a piece I wrote after the Boston series.
Read it, and then spread the word...

Deep breaths, everybody

Now that we've all had 8+ hours to decompose from Joel Ward's series-ending goal, putting the Caps into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs...I can get around to a few observations on the night (and series).
For starters, let me point out to Boston sports fans that anything we Caps fans said/did on Twitter wasn't personal. We have more respect for you than we do for Penguins/Cowboys/Philly sports fans.
Having said that, it makes this next statement all the more repellent.
For a vocal minority of so-called Bruins "fans" to use "nigger" (on Twitter) in describing Joel Ward...simply reinforces the stereotypical image of South Bostonites as racists and/or bigots.
Truth be told, I've sat in FedEx Field (back when my brother had Redskins season tickets) and watched Skins fans drop bombs at opposing teams' fans. So you can't claim the moral high ground when it's your own fan base behaving like assholes.
I realize not all Boston fans are like these shitholes last night. This series was exhausting for everyone, let me tell you. But...
Since I have to be at Fenway Park on the 8th of June (to cheer on the Nationals), you'll forgive me if I have a slight fear for my life after last night.
Try to understand why...

Load of shit, part 2

Short one.
Braden Holtby, how the fuck dare you allow yourself to wander out of position in overtime to leave an open net?
Because of your stupidity (and yours alone), the Caps now have to go to Boston on Wednesday night to play Game 7.
That's all I have to say.

Load of shit, is what it is

For the NHL to suspend Nicklas Backstrom for Thursday night...simply because he chose to defend Ovie after the final whistle Monday night...shows once again that the league office is waging a vendetta against the Caps.
This is only my opinion, mind you, but I'm sure you'll find other Caps fans might share my view...
At any rate, the game Thursday is gonna be interesting.
